A Perpetual Glass Ceiling? The Position of Women in the ICT Sector
Informace byly shromážděny studiem literatury a analýzou studií souvisejících s daným tématem. V empirické části této práce byl proveden kvalitativní a kvantitativní výzkum. Data byla shromážděna prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření a rozhovorů.
The Identity Construction and Self-Perception of Queer Sinti and Roma
Tremel, Alicia Sarah Beate ; Uherek, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Wirthová, Jitka (referee)
This thesis examines the identity construction and self-perception of queer Sinti and Roma in Central Europe. Sinti and Roma are at the fringe of society and are subjected to discrimination and antiziganist stigmatisation. As a result, identity construction involves greater effort and leads to the creation of a collective identity that provides Sinti and Roma with a sense of belonging. Queer Sinti and Roma are exposed to intersectional discrimination on the axes of racism and homophobia and occupy a special position within identity formation. Incorporating data from three narrative interviews, testimonies and selected chapters from an autobiographical book, this study demonstrates that intersectional discrimination highly influences identity formation within queer Sinti and Roma. It was shown that identity construction was shaped by concepts like Masking Identity and the Perception of Othering that can be overcome by finding spaces of Belonging and social networks that display Allyship. The establishment of safe spaces for queer Sinti and Roma are crucial for the creation of spaces of Belonging and the manifestation of a mutual group identity. Keywords: Identity, Sinti, Roma, Nationalism, Ethnicity, LGBTIQ, Gender Studies, Intersectionality, Belonging and Othering, Allyship.
Women in Reformation
Hanušová, Barbora ; Vlnas, Vít (advisor) ; Čornejová, Ivana (referee)
Women in Reformation The position of women developed throughout history. Religious reformation, which took place in the early 16th century in the German speaking countries and hundred years earlier in the Czech Kingdom, was one of the movements which changed radically the position of women in the society. First, the religious leaders beginning with Martin Luther changed the clerical view which saw women as incompetent, incomplete and sinful beings into one of respect to the gender and its specifics and to the biological role played by women - motherhood. As a result, women were respected in the society as wives and mothers; nobody wrote preaching about them being danger to men anymore. But with the attack on the monasteries women were deprived of the only way for higher education and independence offered to them in these institutions. The Czech reformation never fully changed its view on marriage. Celibacy and virginity were still considered better ways to salvation then marriage and especially its consummation. In the end both Utraquists and the Unity of Brethren accepted Luther's view on marriage, especially the marriage of priests, but never fully. They tended to see celibacy as the better although for most people impossible way. But the position of women in these branches of Czech reformation was...

Misgendering from the perspective of philosophy of language
Fikejzová, Michaela ; Gvoždiak, Vít (advisor) ; Fulka, Josef (referee)
Misgendering as a phenomenon is currently analyzed mainly from the perspective of gender studies, where it is generally considered a hostile and morally contestable practice. The aim of the presented work is the analysis of misgendering from a completely different position - misgendering as an issue of reference. This type of analysis brings novel insights both to the debates in the field of gender studies and to the debates concerning reference as such. As an interpretative framework I am using Récanati's account on mental files; I am using this conceptual base for evaluating whether given reference and/or coreference may be considered (un)successful. In this framework I examine several model situations, where misgendering takes place, and based on this inquiry I propose a two-level typology of the misgendering phenomenon. The first level takes place only at the perceptual level, where the speaker forms singular thoughts about an object she's perceiving. At the second level, which includes interpersonal reference, I distinguish between three types of misgendering - unintentional, considerate intentional, and hostile intentional misgendering. In the text I oppose the conception of misgendering as only a hostile practice, as it is inevitable or even desirable in certain situations from a reference...

Křížková, Alžběta ; Hroch, Miloš (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
Is Czech Spotify gender-biased? Alžběta Křížková Abstract This thesis analyses the gender inequality of music streaming platform Spotify. It focuses on Czech Spotify, ergo, on the Czech music industry between May 2020 and March 2021. The interdisciplinary study covers crucial theoretical concepts from the theory of platforms, popular music, and gender studies. It verifies whether the theory built on Anglo-Saxon tradition can be applied to the local setting. The dataset comprises of songs placed in the "TOP 200" chart and select editorial playlists. The chart illustrates song popularity based on listeners (organic listening), and chosen editorial playlists indicate the platform's promotion of songs (suggested listening). The gender gap analysis is based on a comparison of three gender ratios of songs entering the platform in total, in the playlists, and songs that make it to the chart. The empirical research utilises fundamental statistics and presents various song aspects (genre, record label, band formation, and others) in relation to artists' gender on Spotify, but also in the Czech music industry. The results show a low representation of female artists in the whole industry, while the platform actively promotes female artists via suggested listening. Organic listening endorses gender stereotypes and...
